Q and A On Literacy Endorsement

I have received some answers from the IDOE to questions I sent to the Literacy Center. Hopefully, you find this helpful.

Q.      Can a school corporation have a Keys to Literacy trainer come into the school to complete the live sessions and then have the teachers complete the asynchronous components on their own time? If so, is there funding available to do this?

A.

I then sent several questions at once. Here are my questions and the IDOE’s response.

I asked for further explanation for question two and received the following response.

I have attached a link to HEA 1243 for your reference as well as a snapshot of the section of the bill where they removed the words: At least 40 hours must be completed through live sessions, which may be attended in person or virtually, taught by a certified facilitator.

Even though is removed, the IDOE is still requiring it and maintaining their strict attendance policy. I have provided a link to this attendance policy for your review as well.  My episode titled Update and Keys to Literacy Overview gives more details on the attendance policy.

If you have further questions, I encourage you to reach out to the IDOE Literacy Center at: inlitcenter@doe.in.gov.

As always, stay educationally aware.
